Google has committed to completing a full transition to post-quantum cryptography by 2029. The deadline isn’t driven by an imminent quantum threat - no cryptographically relevant quantum computer is expected that soon - but by the operational value of crypto-agility: building systems capable of swapping cryptographic primitives without architectural overhaul.

The move reflects a broader industry push to future-proof infrastructure before harvest-now-decrypt-later attacks become viable.
