Anthropic hits ~$1T valuation, overtaking OpenAI as top AI startup

A $65 billion Series H led by Altimeter, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia has pushed Anthropic’s valuation toward the trillion-dollar mark, nearly triple its February mark of roughly $380 billion. The round, which also rolls in a previously committed $5 billion from Amazon, vaults the Claude maker past OpenAI’s $852 billion March valuation to become the most valuable private AI company in Silicon Valley.

Anthropic credits the surge to enterprise and developer uptake of Claude and Claude Code, with annual revenue climbing from about $10 billion last year to $47 billion. The company is also rolling out Claude Opus 4.8 and a closed Claude Mythos Preview pitched at corporate security use cases. CFO Krishna Rao says demand keeps accelerating globally.

The shift sharpens an already aggressive funding race: OpenAI is reportedly preparing an IPO filing in the coming weeks, and Anthropic is weighing its own listing on an undisclosed timeline. Whoever lists first sets the public-market benchmark for frontier AI, and Anthropic’s lead changes the gravity of that comparison.
